How Do You Know If Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment Will Be Permanent

Laser hair removal affects different people in different ways so you can’t really say how successful your own treatment will be if you decide to choose this method of removing hair. The success or otherwise will be affected by:-

1. Your Skin and Hair Type

Laser hair removal is more effective on those with fair skin and dark hair. That’s because the melanin (color pigment) in the hair “soaks up” the energy from the laser and is damaged while it leaves the surrounding skin (which has little melanin) unharmed. If you have blond, red or grey hair or dark skin you may be offered a special type of laser but the treatment is still likely to be less effective than on the fair skin and dark hair type of coloring.

2. Hair Growth Stage

The follicles in hair can only be destroyed by laser treatment when they are actively growing.

This means that around 40% of your hair which is in a resting stage can not be treated in any single session. This hair will always regrow along with any actively growing hairs which were not quite destroyed in the session by the laser.

3. How Amenable Your Follicles are to Being Permanently Killed

It’s as if some hair follicles just want to hang on for dear life and refuse to give up the ghost. These may be killed by repeated treatments or they may stick around forever. For some reason the hair follicles we want to lose may be remarkably resilient whereas the ones we want to hang onto on our heads are often not. Even after radiation treatment to various parts of the body (which tends to kill off hair follicles), regrowth may occur so gentler laser treatment can’t always get rid of unwanted hair for good.
